If you are setting up a new wireless network for a client or at home, you can do the same to make sure you are happy with your coverage throughout the entire site. Continue this process until you see the connection improve. Every time you move the access point, run another iPerf test with the laptop in the wifi dead zone. You can bring your laptop to the dead zone and move your access point(s) around. Maybe you have a coworker or family member complaining that their wireless internet is too slow. This is helpful if you are trying to troubleshoot wifi dead zones. If I am walking around using my laptop(or phone) wirelessly, I can generate traffic using the client and send it to the hardwired server to see what speeds I am getting. That means it is always running in the background and waiting for a client to connect to it. To do this I keep a hardwired host running in my homelab that runs an iPerf server in Daemon Mode. My favorite use for iPerf is testing wifi. This can be handy if you need to estimate the time it will take for a backup job to run from host to host. One reason was to verify that the connection between 2 hosts was as I expected over a VPN connection. I’ve used iPerf at for a couple of reasons. The server can accept connections from multiple clients on different ports and can even run as a daemon. Tests can run for a set amount of time or using a set amount of data. You can test TCP or UDP throughput using iperf.

How do software engineers let stuff out the door like this? I’m still rating this a 3 because I like this app so much, but these bugs need to be addressed FAST. If your speed is 95, the needle point back at like 0 or 5. So if your speed is being measured as 30,the needle points to the exact other side of th dial and says soething like 400. But the new “added feature” of this current release is that the indicater needle on the dial now points in the 180 degree opposite direction of the measurement. Now it is set to 500 and there’s no way to change it. You used ot be abe to calibrate the dial so that….for example….if your connections are generally in the range of 0-100 mbps, you could set the top end of the dial to 100. The most recentupdate has some obvious bugs that I can t beleive they did not catch before releasingthis to the public. I love this app and have used it for a longtime. Best speed testing app out there and also the prettiest interface IMHO. I appreciate their super-fast attention to this. The major bugs disussed below were fixed by the developer only a day after they were reported. Let's hope it to be temporary so I can dump the speedtest I don't like. BUT IF YOU HAVE AN IPHONE 12 THERE MAY WELL BE A SERIOUS PROBLEM. Note I have given this app 4 stars as I really love it and have used it for years and years. I hope that the Ookla team will touch base with Apple and fix this. I think this shows the problem is in something Ookla is not allowing for as to some sort of change in the iPhone 12. Measurements all pretty much match the Mac's Ookla results at 300. That app works fine on both the 12 Max and the 12 Mini. But two iPhones doing the exact same thing? So I dwonloaded a competing speedtest app which I do not usually like as much as Ookla. Had I only bought the one iPhone I would likely have put on my mask and gone to the Apple Store. I take care to match the chosen server to the one the Mac is using and it is an incredible difference. Sometime measures under 100, usually around 150. But when I run the app on both my new iPhone 12s I get the exact same results of very low speeds shown. It shows my Mbps speed to be at or even over the 300 Mbps line I pay for. The Ookla app on my iMac (2019) works great. But both show a disappointing incompatibility with the Ookla Speedtest app.

A few days ago we upgraded to my iPhone 12 Pro Max and she loves her new iPhone 12 Mini. And it worked fine on my wife's iPhone 8 and on my iPhone 11 ProMax. I have used it on iPhones for years and years.
